AWARD-winning husband and wife duo Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman will be special guests of Folk at the Barlow in September.

One of the UK folk scene’s most rewardingly enduring partnerships, they have twice won the Best Duo title in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

They will be at the Barlow in Edgworth on Friday, September 21 which will also host the regular singers’ night next Friday

On the opening Friday night, there will be a ceilidh with music by Darwen band, Still Reeling and a dance display from Rivington Morris. There will also be a singaround in the bar with a short guest spot from Pete Grassby.

Topping the bill at the Saturday afternoon concert will be Mark Dowding who will be joined by Watch the Wall and Trim Rig and a Doxy. Also appearing are Don’t Feed the Peacocks,

The Saturday night headliners are The Oldham Tinker who will be joined by Yesterday’s Men, Gerry Ffrench and Caffrey, McGurk and Madge.

Sunday’s afternoon concert features Pete Grassby, MALpractice,Phil Harty and George Critchley, Mike Fairclough and Matilda’s Trio.

On Friday, September 14, The Barlow presents a show by The Alarum Theatre with a double bill of theatre, poetry and music about the women who answered the call to crew canal boats in World War 2.

Folk will be represented at the Head for the Hills Festival at Ramsbottom Cricket Club when award-winning Scottish outfit Breabach perform on Sunday, September 16.

Watch the Wall, consisting of Brian McGuire, Nick Mallion and Kathy McIver are resident on the acoustic night at No 39 Hopstar Brewery Tap in Darwen every third Tuesday of the month. They will be performing on Tuesday, September 18.

The next song session at Chetham Arms in Chapeltown,will be held on Monday, and the next tunes session on Monday, September 17.

The Saggy Bottom Girls will host their regular singers’ night at the Masons’ Arms in Egerton on Wednesday, September 12.

Sunday, September 16 sees a fundraising concert at The Barlow, Edgworth,to celebrate the life of local singer-songwriter, Sue Grills.
