THE prolific talent of one the greatest minds of British comedy will return to his roots for the first time in 15 years in Llandudno.

Tickets go on sale Monday, December 10 to catch 1980's taste maker Ben Elton on his long awaited return to stand-up at Venue Cymru on Wednesday, November 27 2019.

Back on the road with an all new stand-up show, Ben promises to try and make sense of a world which appears to have gone stark raving mad.

Elton said: "The last time I toured I was still smarter than my phone. Things have definitely taken a funny turn."

Now, after a 15 year absence, the Godfather of modern stand-up returns to the medium he did so much to define.

More than 30 years ago, Ben Elton is one of the most popular stand-up talents of his generation, having burst on to the stand-up scene in 1981 when he became the second resident compere at the Comedy Store after Alexei Sayle, before exploding into the national consciousness as host of Channel 4’s alternative comedy showcase Saturday Live seven years later.

In 1990, he co-hosted the Nelson Mandela Celebration at Wembley Stadium. He hosted the Brits in 1997 & 1998 and The Royal Variety Performance in 2000.

Since then Elton has gone on to publish 15 bestselling novels and West End smashes We Will Rock You in 2002 and Love Never Dies in 2010, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

However, it is the incredible contribution to television that has firmly cemented the reputation of the comedy genius.

As co-writer of the television sitcom The Young Ones, he earned his first major hit at just 23, before beginning a partnership with Bridget Jones and Four Weddings writer Richard Curtis that saw the pair create the masterpiece Blackadder with Rowan Atkinson.

The focal point for many a successful career, in 1983 Elton wrote and appeared in Granada Television's sketch show Alfresco which introduced the public to Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson and Robbie Coltrane.

Not content to wrest on his laurels, Elton's recent critical darling Tudor sitcom Upstart Crow starring David Mitchell proves that there is still plenty of gas left in the tank for the left-wing satirist extraordinaire.

For some much needed levity fro the elder statesman of British comedy, join Ben Elton at Venue Cymru on Wednesday, November 27 2019.

Tickets are £31, to book head to venuecymru.co.uk on Monday, December 10 or call the box office on 01492 872000.
