BLACKBURN Rovers youngster Callum Hendry enjoyed a dream senior debut as Clitheroe returned to winning ways in style on Tuesday night with a fine 3-1 Evo-Stik League First Division North victory at Kendal Town.

The Blues were hurting after their 5-0 thumping at Spennymoor Town on Saturday.

But inspired by Hendry, the son of former Rovers and Scotland captain Colin, they ended Kendal’s unbeaten start to the season.

Fellow new boy Michael Hampson broke from midfield to slot Simon Garner’s side in front in the seventh minute only for Rob Wilson to level matters 13 minutes later with a low shot into the corner.

But Clitheroe went back in front six minutes before half-time when Hendry headed a Scott Bakkor corner in at the far post.

And, after Kendal threatened an equaliser, the 17-year-old Rovers striker, who has joined the Blues on work experience, settled the contest in similar fashion three minutes from the end of normal time.

Ramsbottom United remain winless and bottom of the Evo-Stik League Premier Division after losing 2-1 at Darlington 1883 on Tuesday.

Lee Gaskell netted a late consolation for the Rams.

On the same night new boss Neil Prince made it two wins out of three as AFC Darwen recorded their first away victory of the North West Counties League Premier Division season.

The Salmoners were 3-2 winners at AFC Blackpool thanks to goals from Adam Douglas, Paul Coote and Connor Gaul, whose stunning strike was the pick of the bunch.

The win hauled Prince’s side into the top half ahead of Saturday’s visit of the highly fancied 1874 Northwich to the WEC Group Anchor Ground.
