A KIND-hearted couple have emerged as "charity champs" after presenting Prestwich-based MedEquip4Kids with £725 from their golden wedding celebrations.

Bernard and Pauline Tucker presented the cheque to officials when they popped into the charity's appeals office in George Street along with their son, Ged.

Retired health visitor Pauline and retired education welfare officer Bernard, who live in Breightmet, Bolton, wanted to support a children's charity when they celebrated their recent 50th wedding anniversary. The couple had worked with children all their lives.

They asked asked friends and family to make donations to MedEquip4Kids in lieu of giving presents, as they said they did not need anything for themselves.

Following a blessing at St Osmund’s RC Church, Breightmet, 80 friends and family enjoyed a celebration lunch in the Parish Centre with 1960s music to add to the atmosphere.

Paying tribute to the couple's kindness, Ghazala Baig, MedEquip4Kids chief executive, said: "We are very grateful to Mr and Mrs Tucker for their fabulous donation to MedEquip4Kids and wish them many more years of happiness together."

MedEquip4Kids exists to improve healthcare for children and babies across the north of England by providing specialist paediatric equipment for hospitals and community health teams.

The charity has raised more than £20 million since 1985.
