FASHION accessories firm Beechfield Brands is investing £150,000 as it aims to grow revenues to £25 million over the next two years.

Beechfield, located at Bury's Warth Industrial Estate, is taking 25,000 sq ft of additional warehouse space and is upgrading its management software systems to improve efficiency and customer service as demand increases.

Owner Roger McHugh is targeting expansion across Europe, while domestically demand for Beechfield’s "bags for life" range is set to soar following the introduction of the 5p charge for plastic bags in England.

The firm has appointed accountancy practice Hurst to advise on its growth strategy.

Beechfield imports and distributes plain bags and caps which are branded by retailers and e-tailers, marketing companies, screen printers, clubs, schools, associations and fashion entrepreneurs.

The company has four brands –— BagBase, Quadra Bags, Westford Mill and Beechfield Original Headwear — and employs 35 staff. Turnover last year was £16.3 million and is expected to be £19 million for 2015.

Beechfield is fitting out an additional single-storey warehouse which will give it a total of 100,000 sq ft of space that includes an in-house testing laboratory and a marketing studio. The business currently exports to 20 countries in Europe, with those sales making up just over half of total turnover.

Roger, who bought the company in 2006, said: “I believe we can achieve annual revenues of £25 million in two years. This growth will come about through new distribution opportunities in more countries, as well as by extending our product lines.”

He added: “We have moved to Hurst as we believe it will bring a lot more to the table than simply keeping financial score. In addition, Hurst is very well-connected in the North West textiles community, which has benefits, and runs a programme of useful events and seminars.

“I am looking forward to the Hurst team being actively involved in our strategy.”

Tim Potter, chief executive of Hurst, said: "We are delighted to be providing our full range of services to Roger and his team to help Beechfield achieve its expansion plans.

“The company operates in a sector we know well and Beechfield is a welcome addition to our growing client base.”
