ONE manager unconcerned by his side's lack of competitive action is Old Boltonians' boss Steve Eccleshare.

The Lancashire Amateur Premier Division leaders were due to play their first league game since the end of October at North Walkden on Saturday, but the game was again postponed due to rain.

Second-placed Failsworth Dynamos are now just two points behind the defending champions - with both teams having played 13 games - following their 2-1 home success against Rochdale St Clements.

And with no game scheduled for Eccleshare's side this weekend, Dynamos could claim top spot with victory against their local rivals Chaddertonians on Saturday before Old Bolts' next game at home to Tottington United in a fortnight's time.

However, Eccleshare insists his team will be ready to pounce when they finally get back into league action after playing some friendly matches against higher-league opposition in the past few weeks, including a 4-3 success against West Lancashire Premier Division side Euxton Villa on Saturday.

"We are trying to keep ourselves match fit so that when the league games do restart we are ready and on fire again," said the Old Bolts boss.

"I'm used to losing games to the weather. I take it as part of the season now. The hardest part is keeping the lads interested.

"We are getting a few games in - they are just not in the league.

"The win against Euxton was a good result considering they are a couple of leagues above us. It shows we can compete at that level.

"It was a good exercise. We have concentrated a lot on fitness over the Christmas period.

"When we get back into league action I'm actually hoping we'll come back even stronger."

Eccleshare is not worried about Dynamos overtaking his side at the top, happy to let them take the pressure for a change.

"We will keep playing our own game," he said.

"Failsworth are a good team and I expected them to be up there but we are not concerned.

"We put six goals past them earlier in the season and we still have to play them again.

"The pressure is on them now instead of us. It's their chance to go out and take it. Even if they win they will have played a game more than us.

"I don't worry about it. I've got a group of 20 players here and when they come together as a team they are good.

"Hopefully we can do Bolton proud and go out and retain the title.

"That's certainly what we will be trying to do when we get back in action."

Elsewhere, Horwich St Mary's Victoria home match against Chaddertonians was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch while Little Lever also had an enforced weekend off due to Bury GSOB's involvement in the amateur cup.
