IT looks like it could be another exciting year ahead for Bolton Trampoline Club following a successful 2015, which saw club member Alex Openshaw win the British League final event in London, writes Will Jackson.

The club, which is run by Lynda Gray, had several entrants competing at the finals, which were held at the Copper Box.

Several other athletes from the club, including Shona Welch, Rachael Johnson, Ella Davies, Katie Parkinson, Chloe Lang and Beth Heyes took part in the event at the Olympic Park venue.

Openshaw won the over-19s event to become the League Two Men’s Champion for 2015. He produced his best-ever routine in the final with a total of five jumps to notch up an overall score totalling 48.420.

He will now go on to compete in other national level competitions with the finals due to be held in November.

The success does not end there for Bolton club. It hosted the Bolton Trampoline Club annual tariff competition in November.

The competition saw almost 300 participants from eight different clubs compete in the event and coordinator Gray was delighted with the turnout.

“It was not the biggest we’ve had in terms of numbers, but it was the best,” she said. “It was the ideal number to have. Not too many, not too few. It was the perfect amount and a great success.

“Our next competition is the NDP competition on January 24, that stands for the National Development Plan. British Gymnastics run the competition to encourage people to compete and represent the North West.”

The National Development Plan gives the opportunity for young local athletes to represent their area on a national level.

The winners of the event could eventually be rewarded with a place in the national event.

It is not just elite jumpers who are welcome at Bolton Trampoline Club, any person of any age over five, is welcome to come to the club, as Gray was keen to stress.

“There’s trampolining every day. We mostly train at St Catherine’s Academy, but we do have two satellite centres in Radcliffe and Sharples.

“Anybody can come and bounce, although youngsters have to be at least five years old.

“Older ages and parents bounce too.”

The club works closely with the community and have a very good working relationship with their hosts St Catherine’s Academy.

Gray continued: “Sara Rushton is the assistant head at St Catherines and helps us out a lot as a liaison to the school.

“We provide coaches and equipment to the school and as a result we work closely with St Catherines.”
