BOLTON Hot Wheels Cycling Club ended 2015 in fantastic fashion, earning three podium places at the North West Cyclo-Cross Association event in Macclesfield.

Bolton were well represented at the event at South Park in Macclesfield with 16 club riders taking part in junior events over a number of different age groups. Nine adults from Bolton also attempted the course.

Cyclo-cross sees cyclists navigate their way around a course whilst tackling a number of conditions and obstacles, which involves them dismounting and carrying their bicycle around or over the obstacle. Emphasis is placed on the rider’s endurance and dismounts rather than speed.

All three Bolton Hot Wheels riders' podium places came in the junior section of the event.

Isaac Peatfield achieved second place in the under-16s boys competition, with Melissa Boylin third in the under-14s girls' race and Dan Porter third in the under-12s boys' race.

Melissa said after the race: "It was very good to get back on the podium after being injured for a couple of weeks.

"It was a challenging but fun course to come back on.”

With the poor weather, and the well-documented flooding, Bolton have struggled to race recently. Their last meeting, which was due to be held in Carlisle, was cancelled due to flooding and then there was a worry that Macclesfield’s race would go the same way.

However, the track was in a good condition and the race went ahead as planned.

The league is about to be concluded at Beacon Country Park with several Bolton riders in contention for a high league position.
