BOLTON Hot Wheels fielded 21 young riders in the final event of the North West Cyclocross Association's season.

Although the rain stayed away at Beacon Country Park in Upholland, the course was particularly challenging for the youngsters competing in the under-14s and under-16s youth race with dense mud, a tricky woodland section and even some steps to navigate.

Second to finish in the boys' u16s event was Isaac Peatfield, while Jocasta Minton also claimed the runners-up spot in the u14s girls' category.

After the event Peatfield said: "I have really enjoyed this season. I was happy to finish in overall second place for the u16s."

Minton was equally delighted: "It was great to finish the season on a high with a podium place," she said.

The course was shortened for the younger riders with mud again the main feature after a long energy-sapping uphill section. Daniel Porter maintained his recent good form with a well-deserved third-placed finish in the u12s boys' race while Imogen Peatfield finished the season in style by winning the u10s girls' event by a significant margin.
