THOUSANDS of revellers descended on Tottington to enjoy the town's Big Day Out.

Organisers estimated more than 3,000 people attended the fun day on Sunday, held at Crompton Meadows, the home of of Tottington St John’s Cricket Club.

The popular annual event benefited from some good weather, with visitors being able to swap their waterproofs and wellies for shorts and sunglasses during an overcast July weekend.

One of the main attractions was live music running during the day with a range of musical styles on show, from rock and roll, blues and rock ballads and acoustic harmonies.

Performing on the day was Cassie Chan, rock band Bronx, singer songwriter George Borowski, The Hayes Sisters, blues band Strawberry Arthur as well as opera singer April Grime.

Other entertainment during the day included a range of stalls, refreshments from the bar and the barbecue, as well as crepes and afternoon teas.

Younger visitors were not left out, with a bouncy castle, face painting, coconut shy, and even pigeon racing keeping them well entertained.

Organiser Keiran Coe said: "The organisers, jointly St. Anne’s Church and Tottington St. John’s Cricket Club, would like to express their thanks to all the stall holders, sponsors and volunteers on the day.

"But mostly to everyone who came and provided for a really good trouble free community atmosphere and of course, not forgetting the fabulous weather which we have immediately rebooked for next year!"

Mr Coe added that he had received a lot of positive feedback on the day, with one of the stallholders remarking that he "loves coming to this event as it is always such a lovely atmosphere and everyone is so friendly".

He said that a young boy who had his face painted and was enjoying an ice cream asked his mother whether they could go back next week.
