A THUG violently attacked a man with a baseball bat after finding out he was in a relationship with his sister.

Umar Mustafa attacked the victim after hearing about the romance, which had been kept a closely guarded secret from both families.

After discovering this, Mustafa, aged 22, of Bradford Road, Farnworth, threatened the man over the phone, demanding that he end the relationship.

Then Mustafa decided to go round to the house of the victim, with his cousin and co-defendant Zamir Hussain, aged 22, of Green Lane, Great Lever.

At the house, Mustafa attacked the man, hitting him side of the head with a baseball bat.

Later that day, on December 16 last year, the man hit with the baseball bat contacted his brother, who then came to scene of the incident, in Westbourne Avenue, Great Lever.

When the brother arrived, he saw Hussain and Mustafa sat in a car.

The pair then got out, and proceeded to attack the brother who had just arrived, also hitting him on the side of the head with a baseball bat.

Mustafa and Hussain both appeared before Bolton Crown Court yesterday, to be sentenced by the Honorary Recorder of Bolton, Judge Timothy Stead.

Mustafa previously pleaded guilty to two counts of section 47 assault, causing actual bodily harm.

On the first count, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 18 months. He was sentenced to another six month suspended sentence on count two to run concurrently.

He must also complete 140 hours of unpaid work.
