YOUNG twins are hoping they make double the impact as they prepare to complete a five kilometre charity walk.

Six-year-olds Tia Rose and Grace Rose Barber decided they wanted to help twins across the country by raising money for the Twins and Multiple Birth Association (TAMBA).

With the help of their mum April, the Lostock Primary School pupils organised a charity walk, which will take them around Rivington on Sunday.

The pair, who are non identical twins, enjoy exploring the countryside but have been restricted in their training efforts by the recent bad weather.

And they hope the rain will stay away to make sure their journey does not become a washout.

Miss Barber, from Westhoughton, said: "I am a member of TAMBA, and we get regular newsletters about it through the post.

"The girls saw one, and asked me what it is about. After seeing it, they wanted to go something to help, and came up with the charity walk.

"This will be the first walk they have done for charity, but they do like going up in the mountains and having a walk."

Their original fundraising target was £100, but that was smashed very quickly, and they now hope to raise about £750 with the current total just under £600.

TAMBA is the only UK wide charity working to improve the lives of twins, triplets or more, and their families.

It campaigns and works to improve health and developmental outcomes, funding clinical research to reduce the risks faced before, during and after birth, and by providing practical support for all families.

Miss Barber, a single parent, admits caring for twins was difficult but says it is rewarding.

She said: "It was challenging at first, especially being on my own. It was difficult when they both wanted to be fed at the same time, but as they have got older it has become easier.

"They are the best of friends, and they are always there for each other."
