CAN we fix it? Children at a Harwood primary school certainly could as its new library was opened by a children's author who helped create kids TV hit Bob the Builder.

Curtis Jobling was on hand at St Maxentius Primary School to unveil its brand library, which has had a total revamp and £3,000 invested in new books.

The author, who was the production designer of the popular show, is also known for his adventure books Max Helsing and Wereworld, and was behind the Cbeebies show Raa Raa the Noisy Lion.

To welcome him to the school, youngsters dressed up as characters from Raa Raa and Bob the Builder, before he cut the ribbon to officially unveil the library.

The library has undergone a total revamp in the past few months, with books now being catalogued on an online system which tracks which are being lent out and are available.

In addition, the space has been opened up with tables and chairs to allow the youngsters to sit down and lose themselves in books.

Clare Bennett, headteacher of the school, said: "Our library used to be like a high school library, with high shelving and it was a bit uninspiring.

"So the governors decided they want to do something about it, and to inspire children to read and get them hooked on books.

"We were really pleased with the library so we wanted to get a special guest in to officially open it.

"Curtis was great, and to welcome him we decided to dress up as some of the characters from his work. The children loved hearing stories from his books.

"They were excited because his stories are adventure based, and both the boys and the girls were really enjoying it."
