A BEFORE and after-school club is celebrating an 'outstanding' Ofsted report.

Staff at Woodbank Oscars, part of Woodbank Primary School, provide children with play and learning environments that are vibrant, interesting and give them opportunities to discover and explore, according to inspectors.

The club received an ‘outstanding’ rating – the highest rating possible – for effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; and personal development, behaviour and welfare.

Inspector Joanne Parrington said: “Children’s attitudes about the club are extremely positive.

“They comment that the club is exciting, a fun place to play with their friends and the staff are really nice and kind. The management team leads exceptionally dedicated and well qualified staff.

“They share the same values and high expectations of providing children with superb, fun experiences after a busy day at nursery or school. Children’s emotional wellbeing is fostered extremely well.

“Staff implement a well thought-out key person system, resulting in superb bonds with children and helping them to remain very happy, independent and confident.”

The ‘outstanding’ rating is an improvement from the last inspection in 2013 when the group was rated as ‘good’.

Kelly Macadam, headteacher at Woodbank Primary School, said: “We are delighted with the outcome, it was a whole team effort. It is a very well established team and a good strong group of staff.

“One of the strongest aspects is that the staff work in school, so they have very good links with teachers, and know the children and families very well. The feedback from the inspector was highly complementary."
