BURY Council have closed Kersal Vale Road in Prestwich due to a collapsed wall.

The wall at the old Cussons site has collapsed blocking most of the road.

Bury Council have tweeted: "The road will remain closed between Rainsough Brow and Moor Lane until the property owner makes the remaining wall safe."

Services are currently at the site cleaning up.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We were informed this morning by the police that a section of boundary wall of the former Cussons site had collapsed onto the footpath and highway. Our building control engineers visited the site and removed debris and diverted pedestrians as necessary.

"Due to concerns about the remaining wall, we have closed the road – from Rainsough Brow to Moor Lane (Salford) - while the property owner arranges for the remaining wall to be made safe. Diversions are being put in place as we speak.

"For the moment, the closure order is for 21 days, although we will of course reopen the road sooner if the necessary safety works are done sooner.

"We are informing Salford Council as Moor Lane is in their borough.
