AN evening celebrating a successful academic year at Bury Grammar School for boys was held last week.

Pupils and parents attended the prestigious event at The Victoria Hall in Bolton where a number of prizes were awarded to pupils from year seven to the recent sixth form leavers.

The evening began with a rendition of the school song, before the Chair of Governors, Gillian Winter, gave her remarks.

The concert band then performed Symphonic Suite from Star Trek, by Michael Giacchino, arranged by Jay Bocook.

Special guest for the evening was Old Boy Bobby Cross, who is known for his sporting success.

Having organised the event for the previous seven years as second master, this was the first prize giving for Mr Cassidy as headmaster.

He said: “I was absolutely delighted to be able to celebrate the boys' achievements with them. The boys are a credit to themselves and many are going up to some of the best universities in the country and clearly have very exciting futures ahead of them. We are also very proud of those who have achieved more modest results, for whom, such results represent great personal achievement. I congratulate all the boys on their achievements.”

The evening concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the Captain of the School Joe Edgar.
