THEY did it! – Three chickens successfully travelled 1,500 miles around the north coast of Scotland on a 50cc scooter.

Workers from homelessness charity Urban Outreach donned chicken costumes to complete the wacky challenge in a bid to raise money for chickens for Christmas dinners.

Rob Balfour, Dave Bagley and Alan Holt embarked on the journey last weekend to fundraise for their 'Christmas dinners on Jesus' scheme, which provides Christmas dinners to those people who need or deserve them across Bolton.

The trio took it in turns to travel 500 miles each on the 50cc scooter, finishing in John O'Groats on Sunday evening.

Rob Balfour, who was tasked with dealing with any mechanical issues said: "It went really, really well.

"We didn't quite complete the last few miles on the scooter as it broke down and we didn't have time to fix it, but apart from that it was really, really good.

"We were really lucky with the weather. From the Thursday morning straight through, it was beautiful.

"We have raised £4,500 so far but we are still fundraising so there is still a long way to go.

"We turned a lot of heads – everyone who we spoke to was really friendly and really supportive.

"It was a great thing to do and it is a memory that we will not forget."

The idea behind it came from Rob, who wanted to celebrate turning 50 this year. Along with his colleagues, Dave and Alan who are also 50, they decided to travel 1,500 miles on a 50cc scooter to raise £15,000 for Christmas dinners.
