A HAVEN for steak lovers has opened in Bury — and it’s a real treat.

The Bury Times was invited to try out the new Miller & Carter Steakhouse in Greenmount, which opened two months ago.

The premium steakhouse chain has converted the former Toby Carvery to bring a cosmopolitan dining experience to the suburbs.

The restaurant has been beautifully refurbished and was busy with diners on a dark and dreary Wednesday evening.

But did the grub match up to the decor and claims of Miller & Carter to serve the 'perfect steak'?

If juicy and tender duck wings, succulent steak and melt in your mouth beef drenched in beautiful Bordelaise sauce sound like your kind of dishes, get down to Miller & Carter.

SLOW COOKED BONELESS BEEF RIB - Tender beef rib served with creamy mashed potato, crispy onions, beef dripping Bordelaise sauce and buttered greens - £16.95

The menu is top notch and rivals any upmarket offering you would find in cities around the country. In fact, Miller & Carter also has branches in Manchester, London and Liverpool.

CLUCK & DUCK WINGS - Sticky chilli-hoisin glazed chicken & duck wings served with Buttermilk ranch dressing and dressed slaw - £6.50

Miller & Carter serves premium-graded beef, sourced from cattle reared on sustainable British and Irish farms, before being matured for at least 30 days.

A choice of 12 quality cuts, including a 30oz Longbone Tomahawk and its award-winning Sirloin, are then hand-prepared by master butchers and expertly grilled by specially-trained chefs.

Fillet 8oz - The most tender steak regarded by many as the premium cut and recommended rare - £24.50

As you would expect, all this quality and skill comes at a cost and the prices certainly reflect this.

STUFFED MARROW BONE - Tender beef brisket mixed with British Beef dripping sauce, topped with crispy onions and aged cheddar cheese sauce - £7.75

The bill for a meal for two, with drinks but not wine, came in at about £80.

There's a fixed price lunch menu offering a selection of dishes - £10.95 for two courses or £13.95 for three - available from noon to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and until 3pm on Saturdays.
