Bury’s Gemma Atkinson faced a tough night in the ballroom when she had to perform two Strictly Come Dancing routines.

The radio presenter spoke about her struggle to master both the rumba and the tango in just a week.

However, she was cheered up by a video completion showing the public’s support for the former Emmerdale actress, including comments like ‘do this for the North!’

Her first dance with partner Aljaz Skorjanec saw her donning a sparking silver dress for the sensual Latin to Labrinth’s Beneath Your Beautiful.

She said: “It mean so much that people believe in what we are doing.

“I want to do everyone who supported us proud.”

The routine won praise from the judges for her ‘beautiful legs’ and control, but they said it lacked ‘musicality’, wining a score of 30.

The next time the couple stepped out it was to 1979 rock hit My Sharona by The Knacks which provided the soundtrack to their tango.

Bury Times:

Sweeping the floor in a sleek black and green dress, Gemma said it would ‘make or break’ their chances to get into next week’s final.

Fortunately it won over the judges who scored it 32.

However, it is yet to be revealed if the final overall score of 62 - finishing second from bottom on the leader board and the viewers votes are enough to save her.

The results show is at 6.30pm tomorrow on BBC One.
