POLICE officers have reopened the case of the death of woman after a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Linda Richardson, aged 49, was found unconscious at a house in Spencer Street, Elton on June 14, 2014.

Ms Richardson was taken to hospital where she died sometime late.

An investigation into the circumstances was launched at the time and the case was subsequently closed as it was deemed there were no suspicious circumstances.

In November 2017, officers received new information that caused police to reopen the case and today, a 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector John Stainton of GMP’s Bury borough, said: “Whenever new credible information comes to light, whether the case is closed or not, we have a duty to investigate it.

“We have a man in custody who will be questioned by specialist officers to aid our investigation while we carry out our enquiries and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”
