MANCHESTER Grammar School pupils from the Bury and Prestwich areas have been highly successful in securing coveted offers for the University of Oxford.

For 2018 entry, 32 MGS boys have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge, placing MGS in a very select group of top academic schools nationally.

Of those 32, Alex Demby, 17, of Prestwich, has an offer to study Medicine at Christ Church College, Oxford, and Josh Levinson, 18, has been offered a place at New College, Oxford, to read History.

This year’s offers follow on from MGS being named as the North-West Independent School of the Year 2018 by The Sunday Times in their schools’ guide, and School Sport magazine has recently announced that MGS is the best independent sporting school in the North of England, and in the top five nationally.

Josh said: “The offer definitely surprised me but I’m happy and I want to say thanks to all of my teachers who have helped me along the way. I now need to focus on getting the grades at the next hurdle, A-levels.”

The High Master, Dr Martin Boulton, said: “I am exceptionally proud of our boys. To secure so many offers from Oxford and Cambridge is testament to their talent and dedication, and I wish them every success with their examinations later this year.

“I am also delighted the School has been named by The Sunday Times as the North-West Independent School of the Year 2018, and that our sporting achievements have been recognised by School Sport magazine.

“We pride ourselves on giving our boys a well-rounded education, both in and out of the classroom, so it is very pleasing to see the achievements of our boys and our staff recognised in this way.”
