A GROUP of fighting-fit mums are taking on a marathon of a challenge.

The fabulous friends who met through a bootcamp have been training together for two years and challenging themselves to more and more tests of fitness.

Having completed 5ks, 10ks and a half marathon or two they are embarking on a 26 mile hike through the Scottish countryside.

The friends, who met through Peak 1 Fitness, range from 30 to 56-years-old and will be attempting the Rob Roy Mighty Hike in aid of Macmillan on September 1.

Mum-of-two, Lesley Woods, is part of the group and said: "We haven't so much chosen the charity as chosen the challenge.

"Some of them did a Lake District hike for Macmillan last year and they really enjoyed it and it looked great. Just seeing that team spirit and camaraderie and looking at the photos and seeing what a great time they had and the achievement, it's a 26 mile hike, it's no walk in the park.

"We're doing it with Macmillan because it's really well organised, it's a great event and everybody somewhere has been touched by cancer.

"Some of use have built up to a 10k and some have done a half marathon and it's seemed like the next challenge."

The group have set themselves a fundraising target of £3,000 and are planning special events through the year to raise money.

Mrs Woods, aged 40, said: "We wanted to do something better than a justgiving page so the people that donate get something back for their money."

On Friday the group is holding a fashion show at Walshaw Sports Club in Tottington with Shop 2 Drop, raising money through ticket sales.

In July the group are holding a masquerade ball at the sports club and are keen to get business sponsors and raffle prizes for the event.

The masquerade ball will be held on Saturday, July 7, again at the sports club.
