ROYAL wedding celebrations are under way across Bury and Radcliffe as young and old alike turn out to mark the much-anticipated occasion.

Schools across the town have held their very own mock wedding ceremonies, with teachers and pupils alike getting in on the knees-up.

Balloons, bunting and flags accompanied the colourful celebrations ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's special day tomorrow.

Pupils from Christ Church Ainsworth Primary School took part in their very own wedding ceremony at Christ Church Ainsworth on Thursday.

Vicar Dave Thomson said: "We held a mock royal wedding in church. I took the pupils through the ceremony including their vows – obviously not real ones.

"The classes then returned to school for a wedding reception.

"It was a fun event for the youngsters.

"Hopefully it will help them understand a bit better when they watch the real royal wedding on Saturday."

On Friday, pupils at Bury Catholic Preparatory School dressed up in their wedding gear and enjoyed their own street party with arts and crafts sessions throughout the afternoon.

Wesley Methodist Primary school also got in on the occasion.

Their royal wedding celebration saw children dress up in party clothes for a disco on Friday afternoon.

A total of 45 pupils from the Early Years classes also took part in a ceremony. An ice cream van also pulled up at the school as a special treat.

Meanwhile, Broomfield Close in Ainsworth will be holding a street party on Saturday from 3pm, with a bouncy castle, BBQ and cake competition.

The real royal wedding will take place at St George's Chapel, Windsor, on Saturday, May 19.

Live coverage of the day's events will be aired on BBC and ITV, with the ceremony taking place at midday.
