RESIDENTS can go green as Clean Air Day comes to Bury today.

An array of electric travel alternatives, including the latest bikes and cars, will be on display at the The Rock from 11am to 3pm.

Staff from Bury Council will also be on hand to discuss air quality in the borough and offer advice on how to travel more sustainably — you can even check carbon monoxide levels in your lungs with Bury Lifestyle Service.

Residents are being invited to sign a pledge to walk and cycle more, leaving the car at home or car-sharing at least one day a week.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, said: “Air pollution affects us all, especially children and those in ill health, and is linked to thousands of premature deaths each year.

“We know that road transport is largely responsible for the levels of pollution we have in Greater Manchester, so by changing our everyday travel habits we can all make a difference.”
