A SCHEME to help out-of-work adults back into long term employment is enjoying huge success in Bury.

The Greater Manchester wide Skills for Employment service provides personalised support and has so far helped 58 people secure a long-term job and improved the skills of 562 more.

The service is funded by the European Social Fund and Local Growth Funds and delivered by The Growth Company.

One beneficiary of the service is Julie Westlake, whose part time work as a cleaner was affecting her health and leaving her unable to financially support her family.

Ms Westlake is now taking part in an NHS placement as well as undertaking a BTEC and Care Certificate.

She said: “Skills for Employment has been amazing and I would 100% recommend it to others. I’m finding my work placement really exciting and my confidence has grown in all areas."

Mark Hughes, chief executive of The Growth Company, said: "I’m delighted that we’re making such a positive difference in Bury."
