BURY Labour Party have revealed their candidate chosen to fight the Besses by-election on July 19.
The election has been called in the Whitefield ward following the resignation of Councillor Elizabeth FitzGerald.
Lucy Smith, a long time Labour member, whose mother and father both served as Bury Councillors and Mayors, and who lives in the borough with her husband and son, has now been selected by the party to stand.
Ms Smith said: "My mum and dad taught me my values of caring and shouting out about injustice. I hope I can be as respected and hard working as them. But I am my own person, with my own priorities. I want to represent Besses Ward to fight for a higher police presence and work with the community for change"
