MUSIC fans heading to the Little Mix gig tomorrow have aired fears about potential travel chaos due to the lack of trains to and from the venue.

About 30,000 concertgoers will be making the journey to the Macron in Middlebrook on Saturday to see the band described as the world's biggest girl group.

But some have been complaining that Northern have replaced all of today's trains between Manchester and Horwich Parkway, the closes station to the Macron, with replacement bus services due to the electrification works.

The last replacement bus from Bolton Station before the gig leaves at about 2.26pm two and a half hours before the doors are scheduled to open and five and a half hours before Little Mix are due to come on stage.

And after the gig finishes at 10.15pm, the next service from Horwich Parkway to Bolton and Manchester will not be until 12.32am on Sunday.

Several fans have taken to social media to vent their frustrations, with many wondering how they would get back from the concert.

One asked Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham for help and said: "The biggest girl group on the planet (Little Mix) are playing at the Macron stadium in Bolton and guess what?

"Northern Rail have cancelled all trains from Manchester!! I mean, what is going on!?! #sendhelp."

Another said: "Supposed to be seeing Little Mix on Saturday and there are literally no trains/replacement bus to Horwich Parkway between half 2 and half 11.. that is beyond ridiculous. How are people supposed to get there??"

For those hoping to get from Bolton town centre to the concert, there will be a £5 shuttle bus service running to the Macron from Topp Way car park and Deane Road car park every 20 minutes with the first bus leaving at 2.30pm.

According to Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), there will be shuttle bus services to Bolton town centre running after the concert but these will be limited.

But it is unclear how those who live further afield, in Manchester for example, would be able to get home.

Northern has experiences significant problems and public backlash after it introduced a new timetable earlier this year.

The change brought a slew of delays and cancellations, leading to the invention of #NorthernFail and outcry from local MPs.

David Brown, managing director of Northern, recently said: “We have been experiencing some significant disruption to train services, especially around north Manchester, Bolton, Liverpool, Blackpool and up to the Lake District.

"I’d like to apologise for this unacceptable situation and for the disruption and inconvenience many passengers have faced. We’re truly sorry for this and are working hard to fix this.

"We are absolutely committed to resolving the service issues, and the interim plan will help ensure we start to get back on track and start to give customers more certainty around the services we operate.

TfGM has advised people to check bus timetables — the 516, 517, 574 and 577 all go to the Macron Stadium.

Drivers not going to the concert have been urged to re-route their journeys and avoid roads in the areas between 2.30pm and 6.30pm as well as between 10.15pm and 11.30pm.
