A DEVELOPER has released a new image of how a controversial 129-home estate will look once its completed — and has revealed what it will be called.

The houses are currently being built at Bowlands Hey in Westhoughton after it was granted permission by a planning inspector last year.

A spokesman from Bellway Homes revealed that The Vistas, the name of the new development, will include a mixture of three and four-bedroom homes including both semi-detached and detached houses.

Susannah Thomas, sales manager at Bellway Homes, said: “We are delighted to be back in Bolton, bringing our high quality homes to Westhoughton.

“The site layout for The Vistas is superb with a great range of properties to meet the current local housing requirements.

“Remediation works on site have commenced and initial interest from buyers has started to filter through.

“We are looking forward to launching the development later this year, with the release of the first phase.”

Bellway has also made a contribution to the community, including £763,419.84 for education, £112,315 towards public open space and the play area on site as well as £4,700 for a traffic regulation order.

The planning application from Bellway Home was initially refused by Bolton Council following widespread opposition to the proposals by both Westhoughton residents and councillors.

The authority argued that the application warranted inappropriate development in green belt land and would create traffic problems on the roads in the area.

But the developer appealed the decision and the refusal was overturned by a Government planning inspector last year after an enquiry.

The inspector, Hayden Baugh-Jones, argued in his decision that there were benefits to the development.

He said it would not result in harm to the highway network and made reference to the authority’s shortfall in its five-year housing land supply, which reportedly stands at just more than three years.
