A THRIVING Walshaw pub has received national recognition for its 'responsible' business approach.

The Victoria, in Hall Street, was nominated as a responsible business champion by Bury North MP James Frith, for the 'transformative effect' its owners Richard and Lisa Moore have had since taking over in March 2017.

The award was part of the All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group's ‘Responsible Business Scheme’, which aims to shine a light on businesses that support the local community, invest in healthy workplaces, offer apprenticeships and training, work to reduce their environmental impact and support responsible business practice.

Earlier this month, Mr Moore visited Westminster to collect the award along with representatives from other winning businesses from across the country.

The Victoria regularly supports several community events and initiatives - they host locally organised craft and book clubs, support nearby Christ Church Walshaw and hold live entertainment nights each week.

The pub have also recently announced that they will provide £1,200 in sponsorship for Walshaw Panthers football club, assisting them with their kits and training provision for the forthcoming season.

Earlier this year, the pub underwent a £115,000 refurbishment, and currently employees 30 members of staff.

Mr Moore said: “It’s a real thrill to be acknowledged for the work the Victoria does in the community.

"Building our business around community engagement has been a great way to meet people and understand the needs of the local people and become a community hub for everyone. "

Bury North MP James Frith said: “The power of responsible small business is something I will always help bring to people's attention.

"Richard, Lisa and the team have had a transformative effect on the Victoria pub and it is a testament to their community mindedness that they are thriving as a business and growing local employer. And the beer is good!”
