A WOMAN has been sentenced to a 12-month community order after supplying Class A and C drugs to a friend who later died.

Lindy Spencer, aged 44, of Kilburn Road, Radcliffe, had been at a friend’s house when the two had started drinking and taking cocaine, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard yesterday.

Later in the evening Ms Spencer’s friend complained of trouble sleeping and back pain and she gave him a dose of her prescribed Diazepam, also known as Valium, and a tablet of Zomorph, an opioid painkiller, given to her by a friend.

The pair later went to bed, and Ms Spencer’s friend fell asleep at the foot of the bed. However, the next day she found that he had died.

Addressing Ms Spencer, Judge Maurice Greene said: “You are not a drug dealer in any sense of the word.

“This is a very tragic case all around. You are 44 and have never had a previous conviction.

“I see that you are working very hard now to stay off drugs because you see what they can do.

“They can ruin lives and kill as has happened in this particular case.”
