WHILE Bury might seem just about as far away from Tennessee as you can imagine, one Brandlesholme artist is on a mission to bringing country, of a distinctly Mancunian variety, to the masses.

Fast rising singer-songwriter Charlotte Mary has released her new single, today.

Entitled Dreamer, the track is a spirited rallying cry against negativity and forms one of a quartet of releases the 24-year-old is planning to put out this year.

Bringing a sound inspired by artists from Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen to Mumford and Sons and The Beatles, Charlotte's music combines dreamy but catchy soundscapes with heartfelt songwriting based on her life — particularly past relationships.

Charlotte said: "I just write songs from my own experiences, I don't write third person sort of stuff.

"This song is about having people in your life that don't get behind you and support you and they don't really care.

"It's encourage people to break off from those who don't really care for you and get away from negativity."

The single will be launched at two launch nights at Jimmy's in Manchester's Northern Quarter tonight, and Soho's The Spice of Life, where legends including Bob Dylan and Ed Sheeran have played, on Saturday.

Charlotte said: "It's exciting for us because we have never played a gig in London, and Soho is going to be really busy so that's great."

A former Tottington High School and Bury College student, Charlotte has lived in Brandlesholme all her life, going on to study Songwriting at the British and Irish Institute of Modern Music in Manchester.

No stranger to the stage Charlotte has already played around the region, including at Ramsbottom Festival, Bolton Food Festival and Glaston-Bury.

After cutting her teeth in folk-country outfit Juliet Rises, she is now branching out to go solo.

Earlier this year Charlotte was picked up by Ville Leppanen landing a record deal with London label Animal Farm.

She is now looking forward to moving in her own direction, hitting the road and getting recognition as a solo artist around the UK.

She said: "Before I had to rely on the band to play gigs but now it's just me so I'm getting a lot more publicity and things like that.

"A lot of people are fans of the band that I used to be in, so I'm trying to build up a following for myself.

"It's about building up that fanbase by playing gigs and then next year I will apply to play festivals when I have more of a following — somewhere to kick off from."

This drive is written throughout Charlotte's aims and her music with her love for country galvanised by a desire to escape from being a pastiche of Manchester music.

She also wants to bring country music to a wider and younger audience, and to steer clear of faux Americanisms for UK country artists can sometimes have a tendency.

Charlotte said: "Country musicians don't really get publicity. There are quite a few of out there, but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

"I don't know if it's not cool to like country music, but I have stuck to my roots.

"And I don't want to go down the road of using Americanisms when I'm from Bury because it wouldn't pass."

Dreamer is available to stream and download from iTunes, Spotify, Amazon MP3, Deezer & Google Play.
