ROAD repairs will be undertaken in the Water Street area of Radcliffe next week.

Resurfacing and some minor footway and drainage repairs will be carried out in Water Street, which is currently in a poor condition.

The work will be undertaken at the same time as similar resurfacing schemes in Bolton Road, between Unsworth Street and Stopes Road.

The improvements are due to begin on Monday, and are expected to take about six weeks to complete.

Bury Council leader Rishi Shori, who represents Radcliffe West, said: “This is yet further evidence of our commitment to improving the roads in Radcliffe and across the borough as we are now working to improve the condition of Water Street and Bolton Road.

“This is in addition to the work to improve Stopes Road which began a few weeks ago.”

Initially, work will be carried out during Monday to Friday daytime, with temporary traffic signals in place.

Some sections of Water Street will be closed off between 7pm and 12.30am while the new road surface is laid.

In the mean time, a signed diversion route will be in place.

A Bury Council spokesman said: “Unfortunately, when undertaking schemes of this nature, some disruption is unavoidable.

“Nevertheless, Bury Council will endeavour to reduce this disruption as much as possible.

“Some operations, such as removing the old road surface and resetting ironwork can create a considerable amount of noise. We will, therefore, do this type of work during the day time.

“However, although less severe, there will be some unavoidable noise made during the evening surfacing operations.

“We will try to keep this noise to a minimum.”
