A NEW social club will be launched for the over 50s in Ainsworth.

Thanks to funding from Ambition for Ageing, the independent group — Ainsworth Social Club — will meet twice monthly to encourage older people to meet together.

Members will gather at Ainsworth Church and Community Hall on the first and third Tuesday of every month to play games, table tennis and participate in other activities.

Laura Ettrick, one of the organisers, said: "We intend, in time, to increase the range of activities — which will be determined by the members themselves.

"Our aim is to establish a club in the village where older people can gather together on a regular basis to keep fit in body and mind as well as enjoy each other's company.

"Our motto is 'Challenge Yourself'. Why not come along and see what it is all about."

The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 21, between 7pm and 9pm.

An associated Facebook group has been set up for members to share information and ideas about the new club.
