A TRIATHLON club from Rivington is developing a liking for Ironman UK which is held in Bolton every year.

Tri-Rivington annually enters a large team into the physically ultra-demanding event which involves a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride followed by a 26-mile marathon run – although this year's event saw the cycle ride cut by 17 miles due to the moorland fires around Rivington.

At the 2018 staging of the event last month the club achieved the distinction of winning the team event.

Among their individual success stories married members Isaline and Martyn Pollitt both finished third in their age categories which saw them qualify for this year’s Kona World Championship in Hawaii.

Ray McGloin, head coach and founder of Tri-Rivington, said: “The success of our club is largely due to the culture of everyone wanting to support one another and how everyone goes out of their way to help each other succeed.

"I couldn’t be more proud of all our members and I am already looking forward to what Ironman Bolton 2019 brings us.”
