A MUM-of-two is coming up roses!

Diane Duffy proved her floral skills by picking up a runners-up prize at the prestigious Southport Flower Show.

Diane came second out of 11 entries in the contemporary floral design enchanted forest category at the show which took place last weekend.

The 38-year-old, who won a first prize place when she first entered the competition in 2015, has been working in floristry for 19 years.

Diane’s entry this year was an elf’s cradle design she made using materials such as berries and moss gathered from walks at Lilford Woods with her nine-year-old daughter Niamh.

Diane, of Dorset Road, Atherton, said she was delighted with her award at Southport and said she couldn’t wait for next year’s competition.

She said: “I am thrilled with coming second.

“After winning in my first year I didn’t come anywhere in the following two.

“It is tough at Southport and you are up against some of the best in the industry.

“It feels really good and I will be returning next year.

Diane went back to Southport on Saturday to find out where she was placed with her proud uncle Bob Beazant.

Mr Beazant, aged 86, is an award-winning gardener himself and has been an inspiration for her for many years.

She is now looking to follow in their footsteps and is working as a freelance florist in the area.
