CAPTAIN Simon Trim says tomorrow's game is Adlington's biggest for years.

No one fancied the Huyton Road men to go up from the Bolton League Association division at the start of the season, not even themselves.

But with two games to play they occupy the second promotion spot and have their fate in their own hands.

Losing long-time professional and key player Majid Majeed in the winter was seen as a gap they would struggle to fill this season.

But fill it they have, Trim says with a team ethic and spirit and the complementing skills of players rather than with any key individual.

Beat Tonge away tomorrow – with whom they are level on points, two points above Astley Bridge – and they will be in the Premiership next season if they also win their last game seven days later against Darcy Lever, who are currently second bottom.

While Trim will take nothing for granted against Darcy should they win tomorrow, he is under no illusions about the size of tomorrow's game to his club.

"I seem to remember we had a game a few years ago against Spring View that we had to win to win the Bolton Association," he said.

"I would say this one is bigger because of where were have come from this season.

"About four weeks before the season we couldn't even get 11 players with people retiring or moving on.

"So we had a quick rebuild to get a team together and we didn't expect to get promoted.

"New players have helped everyone to gel as a team and everyone does their bit – it's a real team.

"Saturday is as big a game as there is – I just hope the weather is decent. "We hope to get promoted – there's no point getting this far and not wanting to go up.

"It's must-win and the pressure is on.

"There will be no cry-offs for this one, our only thing is we will have a sub-pro because the pro isn't available."

With the losers of tomorrow's showdown still in with a chance of taking the second promotion spot behind champions Little Lever on the final day of the season, Astley Bridge hot on both their heels and Golborne still in with an outside chance, Trim says it would be premature to celebrate a win tomorrow.

"It's going to go down to the last game," he said.

"Everyone can beat anyone in this league, it really is that close.

"Even if we win on Saturday we know we will have a very tough game against Darcy Lever on the last day that we will have to win."
