PEOPLE are invited to find out about their local heritage over the next two weekends.

The historic Heaton Hall will be open to the public this weekend as part of national Heritage Weekend.

Door will open on Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4pm and will be the last chance for people to look around the hall.

A spokesman for Friends of Heaton Hall said: "This is a rare opportunity to peek inside the hall, one of Manchester's finest Grade 1 listed buildings, set within the impressive surroundings of Heaton Park. "Guides will be on hand to give you the history of the home of the Earls of Wilton and details of its design by the noted architect James Wyatt, through to its current restoration.

"Also this the last chance to view the WW1 Exhibition, a chance to discover how the Hall and park became a training ground and also one of the largest rehabilitation centres in the country for wounded soldiers."

The following weekend the Parish Church of St Mary's in Radcliffe will open its doors.

This year, the heritage day will remember the sacrifice made in World War One.

The church will open from 10am to 4pm on Friday, September 14 and 15 and from 11am to 4pm on September 16.
