THE owner of Bury business is going above and beyond in a bid to keep the borough's streets clean.

Earlier this year Warren Senior, owner of Ramsbottom-based Senior Waste Removals, launched a mission to help remove fly-tipped waste, prevent illegal dumping, tackle unlicensed rogue traders, and limit the amount of waste sent to landfill.

He has now renewed his efforts by cleaning up flytipped waste on his days off, and is once again warning residents about how to avoid their waste being unwittingly dumped by unlicensed traders.

Mr Senior said that he has noticed the problem of flytipping getting worse and that if he was able he would love to collect all the flytipped rubbish.

On Sunday Mr Senior cleared up two incidences of flytipping: the first a mattress and two sofas dumped at Kirklees Street in Tottington; and the second a sofa, TV stand and several bags of rubbish left in Stubbins.

Following the efforts Mr Senior shared a message to residents on Facebook.

The message said: "There has been a lot of fly tipping in and around Bury recently and we decided that enough is enough and it's our duty to help the local community and tidy it up.

"Unfortunately we suspect these fly tipping incidents are the result of someone paying to get rid of their waste but not using a registered waste removal company.

"There are a lot of "man and van" popping up all over Facebook, local Buy and Sell sites, saying they get rid can get rid of rubbish for very cheap prices.

"Waste isn't cheap to get rid of and how do you know these are legitimate businesses?

"We suspect these are more than likely the culprits of the fly tipping."

Mr Senior has advised residents to be careful of who they employ to remove their rubbish and reminded them to ask to see a trader's Waste Carriers License, which can be authenticated online, and also to ask to be provided with a Waste Transfer Note to prove the waste has been properly disposed of at a recycling facility.

He said: "All I'm trying to do is show people that if they do care where there waste is going then they can follow a few simple steps."

Senior Waste Management's efforts have also be praised by the leader of Bury Council, Councillor Rishi Shori, who has thanked the firm for helping to combat the rising problem of flytipping.

Cllr Shori said: “Fly-tipping is a growing problem in the borough, although the council has allocated additional resources to tackle the problem in three main ways, focusing on prevention: the installation of CCTV cameras in fly-tipping hotspots, enforcement and, where possible, by removing fly-tipped items, although this is becoming increasingly more difficult due to the budget pressures we are under.

“I would like to put on record my thanks to the company Senior Waste Removals for the services they have done by removing fly-tipping free of charge to protect the local environment. And I would echo their warnings that, if people are employing companies to remove their waste from their homes they check they have the appropriate licensing certification.”
