FAST rising indie-punks Urban Theory brought their blistering brand of rock to Head for the Hills 2018, no doubt earning themselves more than a few converts this weekend. We caught up with the Bury outfit after their set.

Vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Alex Quinn said: “The set went really well. This is the first time we have played the festival. We had never even been before, which is weird considering we only live down the road."

“The tent was near full but a lot of people had never seen us before so they didn’t know quite how to take it at first, but we definitely got a reaction.”

Drummer, Ellis Willoughby added: “The tent was bouncing and there was a great atmosphere. We were on for 30 minutes but if felt like five.

Lead guitarist Jake Heath said: “There was so much energy, it was booming, the sound was fantastic as well, so I think it was a really good opportunity to show people our very best stuff."

Urban Theory are now looking ahead to their biggest gig to date when they will headline the renowned Manchester Academy 3 on October 13.

The date follows a headline slot at Manchester's Deaf Institute in May, and the band's debut headline show at Soup Kitchen in February, which sold out two weeks in advance.

Alex said: “We had been looking play larger gigs and asking [promoter] Scruff of the Neck, but this will be the biggest jump we have ever done. If we can sell this one out it would mean a lot to us — it would be three sell outs in a row."

The band also have new music coming out and their latest single "Mandy" is set for release in November, complete with original artwork and merchandise.

The track was written several years ago by Alex, then aged 16, and has long been a setlist staple for the band.

Alex said: "We have taken out time with this one, adapting it over time and in the studio, and people have said this could be our biggest song yet."
