FUNDRAISERS are hosting a joint charity day to raise awareness and support for families affected by dementia and stroke.

Friends Claire Turrell, Nichola Bond and Janet Crocken have co-organised a charity day in Radcliffe in aid of two charities close to their hearts — Stroke Association North West and Alzheimer's Society.

Claire's mother-in-law suffered a stroke four years ago which left her unable to look after herself, and she also has friends who have suffered strokes. While Nichola and Janet have family members who have been affected by dementia.

The three women have pooled their efforts to host a memory walk and charity fun day this Saturday.

Claire said: "We would really like the day to be a success and would like to bring the community together.

"There will be a memory walk in the morning, followed by a barbecue, DJ, local live acts, a tombola, auction and lots of activities for families.

"We hope you can join us."

To start off the day, residents are invited to attend a memory walk from the centre of Heaton Park at 9.30am on Saturday morning.

Then, from 1pm until late, there will be a charity event at Bar 1 in Stand Lane, Radcliffe, featuring a barbecue, bouncy castle, face painting, live music and more.

There will also be a raffle, with prizes including match day tickets to Bury FC, Salford FC, vouchers for Bonnies hair salon, TLC, Slattery’s and Bridge Water cruises.

The evening will be topped off with pool, poker and darts tournaments.

Siân Thomas, regional fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: "For many stroke survivors, getting their life back on track after a stroke means overcoming life-changing disabilities and emotional trauma. But they can’t do this on their own.

"Every day people across the UK are regaining their independence with the support of the Stroke Association and others.

"We’re incredibly grateful to Claire for holding this charity fun day to help raise funds for people affected by stroke."
