NEXT week sees the start of our Hospice Care Month campaign — and we want people to be ready to paint the town yellow to help this fantastic cause.

Monday is the start national Hospice Care Week, when hospices across the country raise awareness, expel myths, and to get people really thinking about how they can support their own local hospices.

It is a great opportunity to introduce everyone to the work that hospices do and to encourage some kind of fundraising activity within schools, churches, workplaces, etc.

But a week isn’t long enough and, in conjunction with Bury Hospice, we have dedicated the next month to raising awareness and funds for the hospice — and here is how you can get involved.

Throughout October, as well as highlighting the first-class care provided at Bury Hospice, we are encouraging people to wear something yellow and take a yelfie — a yellow selife — to promote awareness of the cause, post on social media and donate to the hospice.

Wednesday, October 24 is bring a cake to work day so it’s worth getting some ideas together now. Also that week, on Friday, October 26, it’s wear something yellow to work day.

We will be joining in and sharing our bright fashions online —as well as making that all-important donation.

During October, we are looking for businesses and organisations to sell hospice sunflower button badges and put up hospice stickers in their windows to show their support.

The sunflower is the national symbol of hospice care and yellow is the colour of the Hospice Movement, so we are asking everyone in the borough to think about what kind of yellow event they can hold that will raise money to help care for people who really need our help.

If you are holding a yellow event, let the hospice know and it will put it on the Facebook page and website.

It doesn’t have to be anything complicated, you could guess the number of yellow sweets in a jar, pay £1 to wear something yellow for the day or make and sell some buns with yellow icing!
