STAFF at Radcliffe's Asda supermarket are uniting to support two major charities during Breast Cancer Awareness Month through its annual Tickled Pink campaign.

Throughout October, the store off Pilkington Way will turn from green to pink in aid of Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now.

Tickled Pink has helped raise more than £60 million since its inception 22 years ago to provide improved care and support for people affected by breast cancer.

Activities at the Radcliffe store this month will include a pink non-uniform day, cake sale and tombola.

A spokesman for Asda Radcliffe said: "This year, colleagues in Radcliffe will be 'in the pink' throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness of breast cancer, and the fundraising activities taking place in-store and in the local community.

"From a pink non-uniform day, cake sales to a tombola, staff will be busy raising funds for the charities supported through Tickled Pink to ensure that care and advice is available for anyone facing a breast cancer diagnosis.

"At Asda Radcliffe, we will be proud to be pink — and we hope you can join us."

In addition to raising £60 million to care for people affected by breast cancer, Tickled Pink has also funded lifesaving research to help stop women dying of the disease in the future.

Emma Gittoes, Asda’s National Charities Manager, said: “As this year’s Tickled Pink campaign launches in Radcliffe, it is an ideal time to say a massive thank you to all of our colleagues and customers who have wholeheartedly supported the campaign in previous years — and to call upon their support again this October."

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with almost 700,000 people living in the UK having been diagnosed and one in eight women will face it in their lifetime.

Breast Cancer Care provide support for cancer patients from the point of diagnosis, via specialist nurses, support groups, a helpline and trained volunteers.

Samia al Qadhi, chief executive of Breast Cancer Care, and Baroness Delyth Morgan, chief executive of Breast Cancer Now, said: "We would like to thank Asda colleagues, customers and suppliers for their continued and dedicated support.

"Together, we have achieved so much. However, the need for specialist care, support and information for people living with, and beyond breast cancer, and further pioneering research to stop women dying from this devastating disease, remains as important and urgent as ever. Every 10 minutes, someone is told the life-changing news that they have breast cancer.

"Thank you to all those who get involved with Tickled Pink by buying from the collection or fundraising in-store this October — your support is hugely appreciated and will make a big difference."
