A CHURCH in Radcliffe will host an evening filled with music, poems and readings to commemorate the centenary since the end of the First World War.
St Thomas and St John, in New Church Street, will open its doors this Saturday for hymns, poetry and a presentation — written by Phillip Gooderson.
Affetside Choir will lead the gathering in some well-known songs.
The church will also be decorated for the occasion — a member of the church has crocheted poppies to create a large display, and remembrance poppies will also adorn the aisle.
Carol Cain, vice-chairman of the Parochial Church Council and a church member, said: "It is a thank you to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world."
Tickets, at £7 including a buffet supper, can be purchased on the door. The commemorations will begin at 7.30pm.
Proceeds will go towards the Royal British Legion, and the church's fund to restore their William Hill organ.
