THE winner of Bury North’s pub of the year award has been revealed.

In August, the town's MP, James Frith, urged people to nominate their best-loved local for the Parliamentary Pub of the Year award.

683 people voted in the final round of voting, with The Victoria, in Hall Street, Walshaw, coming out on top.

Other shortlisted pubs included Irwell Works Brewery, in Ramsbottom; The Major, in Ramsbottom; The Old White Lion, in Bury; and The White Boar, in Bury.

Lisa Moore, co-owner at The Victoria, said: "It is a fantastic achievement for us after trading for just 18 months. When we took over, we decided we wanted to turn it into a community hub, and we feel we have done that.

"We are very excited to go up against all the pubs from elsewhere in the country."

The pub underwent a £115,000 refurbishment after being taken over by Mrs Moore and her husband Richard in March 2017.

It regularly hosts locally organised craft and book clubs, as well as supporting nearby Christ Church Walshaw and holding live entertainment nights each Saturday.
