DOZENS of families and businesses from across Bury and Radcliffe united together to support families affected by dementia and stroke.

From face painting and festival hair to live music and competitions, a crowd of 200 people enjoyed a jam-packed family fun day — and all in aid of charity.

More than £1,000 was raised for Stroke Association North West and Alzheimer's Society through a memory walk in Heaton Park, plus an afternoon and evening of entertainment at Bar 1 in Radcliffe.

Following its success, organisers Claire Turrell and Nichola Bond have decided to host the charity fun day on an annual basis.

Claire said: "It was a great event and best of all, we managed to raise a huge £1,002 for our chosen charities.

"We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank to all our family and friends for all the overwhelming support you have given us.

"Another massive thank you goes to the team who helped on the day, and to Paul and Nathaniel Green at Bar 1 for providing the venue.

"The day was so successful that we have decided to make it a yearly event, and each year will be bigger and better."

Local artist Jake Owens sang at the fun day, and visitors were joined by Miss Lancashire 2017 finalist Elle Finch.

DJ Ryan Turrell volunteered his time to entertain guests throughout the day any into the evening.

Other highlights of the day included a pool competition, poker tournament, bouncy castle and raffle, with many prizes donated by Bury and Radcliffe firms.
