TRAVEL bosses have warned of "significant delays" as roadworks on a key highway are set to escalate.

The work on Regent Road and the Mancunian Way has already caused problems for people driving into the city, but the latest phase of the scheme is due to begin from Monday, October 8.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) officials say additional traffic management will be deployed overnight on Sunday and will reduce the whole of the Chester Rd/Mancunian Way roundabout to one lane, rather than three.

This will cause extended journey times, with 45 minutes predicted between the M602 roundabout and Chester Road and long commutes from Chester Road to and from the city centre, particularly in the evening peak.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes, which could create disruption on parts of the M60. TfGM has also worked with First Manchester to provide additional morning and evening peak park and ride bus services from the A580 site offering circa 100 extra seats per bus.
