A TOWN centre shop could be converted into an adult day care centre for people with disabilities.

Cheetham-based Outreach Community and Residential Services hope to change a large renovated shop unit in Radcliffe into a non-residential centre.

The site in question, 35-37 Blackburn Street, was formerly home to DIY shop The Homemakers Inn. The shop sold Arthouse wallpaper, Johnstone's paint, Harris paintbrushes, plant bulbs, tools and other general home supplies.

An application has been submitted to Bury Council to change the building's use from that of a retail unit and associated offices to a disabled adult day care centre.

The applicant hopes that the new use would result in the creation of new jobs, including the employment of 14 full-time and six part-time members of staff.

When The Homemakers Inn closed, an application was submitted by Willow Management in February 2016 to modernise, modify and extend the shop front glazing, as well as subdividing the old retail unit into two.

In 2017, the two-storey premises on the corner of Railway Street and Blackburn Street and opposite the RSPCA charity shop, underwent a complete refurbishment.

Now, agent Grant Erskine Architects on behalf of the applicant, has outlined plans to carry out some external alterations to the side door, as well as installing a glass handrail at the front.

The building comprises 791.6sqm of open floorspace, including a basement, as well as electric roller shutters at the front.

Vehicle access to the premises is via Railway Street.

It is not yet known what times the centre would be open from and until.
