A BURY primary school continues to be 'good', say inspectors.

A team from Ofsted awarded the rating after visiting Greenhill Primary School, in Mile Lane, for a short inspection on September 18.

The school received the same rating at its last inspection back in October 2014.

Inspectors praised leadership staff for maintaining 'the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection'.

In a letter to the school's headteacher Sean Crosier, they praised his ‘ambitious vision for the school’ following his appointment in September 2017.

Inspectors also reported that staff morale was high and that the school 'makes good provision for their children’s academic and social development'.

Mr Crosier was also praised for his work in attempting to address areas for improvement identified at the previous inspection.

For example, there has been a year-on-year increase in the proportion of pupils reaching the higher standards in reading and mathematics and writing at greater depth by the end of key stage two.

The inspectors added: "There is no sense, though, that you are content to rest on your laurels. You and your fellow leaders and governors appreciate that, although pupils’ attainment by the end of Year 6 is typically above average, there is potential for pupils to achieve even more.

"You have a clear and accurate picture of the school’s strengths and weaknesses and have put well-thought-out plans in place to continue to move the school forward."

The school was told that in order to improve further they must ensure that in subjects other than maths and English, there is clearer progression in how pupils’ knowledge and skills are built up over time, so that the curriculum successfully deepens pupils’ learning, and ensure 'teachers have consistently high expectations of what pupils can achieve across a wide range of subjects'.

Headteacher Sean Crosier said: “We are pleased that the inspection report recognises our ambitious vision for Greenhill and celebrates the many successes of our school community.

"Making learning fun and enriching the curriculum with exciting and engaging experiences supports positive pupil outcomes.

"We have some amazing pupils in our school and it is a fantastic place to be for staff and pupils alike."
