A NEWLY-FORMED dance troupe fought off fierce competition at a national showcase, and brought home a haul of trophies.

Members of Dance Nation Academy (DNA), which opened in May this year, competed at the Dance Factor Championships in Pwhelli, Wales.

The show team secured first prize ahead of eight competitors with their presentation of 'A Spoonful of Sugar', featuring a medley of songs from Mary Poppins, and choreographed by teachers Emma Walsh and Grace Cherowbrier.

Emma said: "We had an extremely successful weekend. Our 26 dancers, including top winners Izzy Hopwood and Jemima Binnall, brought home lots of trophies.

"The dancers were up against tough competition all weekend and fought hard for those podium places. We are so proud of them. The support from all of the parents and dancers was second to none."

Emma added: "We are also delighted to return from the festival with two new championship dancers in slow dance Jemima Binnall and Caitlin Briggs.

"This was our best festival yet."

DNA is currently recruiting new dancers to join its competitive team and fun classes, which rehearse at Bolton St Catherine's Academy.
