THE 25th Wigan Brownies Unit has made a generous donation to the children on Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Rainbow Ward.

Following a collection of Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers to purchase items for their hub, the group took stock of their equipment and decided to use the extra to donate toys to a cause close to home. They also saved up their spare change every week in the Unit’s penny jar, raising an amazing £77.30 for the ward.

Brown Owl, Suzanne Cunliffe, said: “The girls decided amongst themselves to donate their penny jar money to Rainbow Ward because one of them has spent some time on the ward over the past summer.”

“My little girl had Pyloric Stenosis when she was five weeks old, so I’ve spent time on Rainbow Ward with her, so it’s also a cause close to my own heart.”

Pat Barnes, Play Specialist on Rainbow Ward, thanked the unit for their donations saying: “We’re so grateful for the Brownies raising the money, donating the toys and thinking about other children.

“The toys and equipment will make a big difference to the children’s stay with us and it’s very important that they do still get to have fun and play even though they are in hospital.”

Putting their creative energy to good use, the Brownies handmade get well soon cards of all different sizes and colours for the children staying on the ward.
